Learning to Be Known
Whether you’ve experienced trauma or simply long for deeper relationships, here are a few ways to grow in the sacred work of being known:
1. Start by knowing yourself.
Journal about your childhood, your values, or a moment that shaped you. What makes you feel safe? What do you need in relationships? What wounds still surface? Self-knowledge is the first step to honest connection.
2. Share your story with someone safe.
You don’t have to tell everything at once. Try opening up about one meaningful experience with a trusted friend, therapist, or mentor. Watch what happens when you’re met with compassion instead of shame.
3. Ask real questions.
Move past small talk. Ask the people in your life what brings them joy, what they fear, what they’re dreaming about. Then listen—not to fix, but to understand.
4. Show up consistently.
Being known requires showing up, again and again. Offer your presence, even if it’s imperfect. Trust grows through time and intentionality.
5. Remember: You’re worth knowing.
No matter your story, your heart matters. Your voice matters. And the people meant to know you? They’ll show you that gently, patiently, and with grace.
